The Gibson Les Paul Custom "Black Beauty" with three humbuckers is one of the most iconic electric guitars in rock history, celebrated for both its elegant aesthetics and powerful sound. First introduced in 1954 as a more refined version of the original Les Paul, the Black Beauty featured a sleek black finish, gold hardware, and ornate multi-ply binding, earning its nickname as the "tuxedo" of guitars. In 1957, Gibson equipped it with humbucking pickups, a revolutionary move that drastically reduced noise and expanded tonal range. While most Les Paul Customs came with two pickups, a select few featured three humbuckers—offering increased versatility and a thicker, more dynamic sound. Though the middle pickup wasn’t independently selectable in early models, many players appreciated the added tonal color it provided. Popularized by legends like Ace Frehley and Randy Rhoads, the triple-humbucker Black Beauty became a symbol of both hard rock power and visual sophistication. Today, it remains a sought-after model, revered by collectors and modern players alike for its rich legacy and unmistakable presence.
