The 2000 Gibson Art & Historic 1954 Les Paul Custom meticulously recreates the original 1954 “Black Beauty” model, complete with a one-piece mahogany body, set mahogany neck, and ebony fingerboard with block Mother-of-Pearl inlays. It features the classic historic profile neck and the vintage-correct hardware including an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and stop-tailpiece. The signature “Staple” Alnico V pickup in the neck position—paired with a P-90 in the bridge—delivers bright, articulate neck tones and gritty, punchy bridge character. With multi-ply bindings, nitrocellulose finish, and true-to-era electronics, this Custom Shop instrument offers vintage vibe, rich sustain, and a tonal palette faithful to Gibson’s early 1950s heritage.
