The 1967 Marshall 1959 Super Lead is one of the most iconic amplifiers in rock history. Often referred to as the original "Plexi" due to its plexiglass front panel, this 100-watt tube amp was a cornerstone of the Marshall sound that defined the late 1960s and beyond. Known for its raw power, aggressive midrange, and explosive overdrive when cranked, the 1959 Super Lead became the weapon of choice for legendary guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and later Eddie Van Halen. It featured four EL34 power tubes and a straightforward, no-frills design with two channels and four inputs, which players often jumpered together for a thicker tone. Gloriously dynamic when pushed to higher volumes, the 1967 Super Lead helped shape the sound of classic rock and remains a holy grail amp for tone purists and collectors.
