The Fender Coronado II marked Fender’s ambitious foray into the world of hollow-body electric guitars—a territory long dominated by Gibson and Gretsch. Designed by Roger Rossmeisl, who had previously worked with Rickenbacker, the Coronado II featured a fully hollow laminated maple body with a stylish double-cutaway design, distinguishing it visually and sonically from Fender’s solid-body staples like the Stratocaster and Telecaster. It came equipped with two DeArmond single-coil pickups, a floating bridge with a trapeze tailpiece, and a bolt-on maple neck—unusual for a hollow-body guitar.
