Abigail Ybarra, a pivotal figure in Fender's history, began hand-winding pickups for the company in 1958, shortly after joining in 1956. Her meticulous craftsmanship contributed to the iconic tones of legendary guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Ybarra's pickups became highly sought after, often marked with her initials or signature, and were featured in Fender's Custom Shop models. In 2013, after over 50 years with Fender, she retired, passing on her techniques to apprentice Josefina Campos. Ybarra's legacy endures, with her hand-wound pickups remaining a benchmark for tone enthusiasts.
